Problem

What it does

Comparison

  • Speechify: way more voices, a browser extension, and it's very polished. But it's about $139 a year last time I checked. Our voices run on your device, work in airplane mode, and Premium is $14.99 a year.

  • Notability: still the gold standard for ink, and I genuinely like it. My favourite thing about it was tapping my notes to replay the lecture, so we built that in, and in Apricity it's free. You also get a proper book reader and read-aloud in the same app. Where Notability is still ahead: its ink engine is more mature. We're on PencilKit right now and building our own on Metal.

I'm not claiming it beats either of them at everything. It just puts reading, listening and notes in one place, with the voices on your own phone.

  • Free, with no time limit: reading every kind of book, highlights, notes, notebooks, writing on PDFs, lecture recording and iCloud sync and good part there is no limit on this.

  • Premium: $14.99 a year (14 days free, no card needed), or $49.99 once if you hate subscriptions as much as I do. It unlocks the natural voices, transcripts, Smart Notes, export and decorating your reading room

Availability

iPhone and iPad on iOS 26 or later, and it runs on Apple silicon Macs too.

The app itself is in English, Spanish, Hindi, Chinese and Japanese.
