Note, I had to look at other posts to understand if this was acceptable by Rule 2 or not, if it breaks it, my bad.
Im mainly an artist, but i've modded games before, yet before AI i always ended up at the problem of "I need to ask someone more competent to help".
I can read code, i can edit code, i can understand code, but my brain explodes when i try to code from zero.
Nowadays, expecially due to university, i have been using Gemini to create the foundations of the code, explain it to me and essentially just edit it from there based on what i need, or split sections and re-prompt them to fix them.
But I dont know how to feel.
I have asked others about it, including professors, and they've been telling me that AI for coding is fine if you're not blindly vibe coding, which is what I want to avoid.
Ive been even asking Gemini to explain and leave comments on the code to make me understand better so I can try to code things myself.
Is this the right call on how to do it? Mostly because im starting a project with friends, so I want to clear this doubt before we get too deep into it.
Note, I dont use AI for anything else but coding, and Im scared of becoming too over-reliant on it, I wanted to know if this is the right approach or theres a less dependent way to do it/improve at using it less and coding more myself.
